Sometimes love doesn’t make sense on paper..
It doesn’t fit the budget, the schedule, or the plan — but it fits your heart perfectly.
That’s what I realized this week when I almost let go of Bentley, my sweet, oversized, gentle boy who’s been part of our family for years. Everyone — my mom, my son, even my own logic — said maybe it was time.
Bentley is a big, beautiful dog with an even bigger heart. He’s older now, but still runs across the yard with the spirit of a puppy. I’d posted him on a rehoming site weeks ago, thinking it was the responsible thing to do. My son was planning to leave for the Navy back then, and I started to panic. I told myself that maybe Bentley would be happier somewhere with more space, more walks, and more help than I could give while building my business.
A kind man reached out — someone who sounded wonderful, who promised the beach, family time, and a house full of love. It all sounded right. On paper.
But something in me hesitated.
When the day came to let them meet, I couldn’t. My heart just wouldn’t move. I realized this wasn’t about finding Bentley a new home — it was about me learning to trust that love sometimes looks illogical, messy, and deeply personal.
Bentley already has his home. His family. His Mama. His world is built around our routines — the walks, the treats, the other pups and kitties he already knows. He doesn’t need a new adventure; he needs the peace of the love he already understands.
When I finally made the decision, I walked over, hugged him tight, and whispered,
“Bentley stays with Mama.”
And in that moment, all the noise stopped. The guilt lifted. The logic faded away, replaced by peace.
Sometimes love is the most logical thing there is — it just speaks in a language only the heart can hear.
So here we are. Bentley’s home. I’m still building, still working, still juggling a million things — but my home feels complete again.
And the lesson?
Love doesn’t always make sense. But when it’s right, you’ll know.
